Imagine you run a well-known saree store. People already know your name. You have a Google Business Profile. Customers walk in every day. So why worry about Google Maps?
That was exactly the situation of a silk saree retailer in Coimbatore I worked with. The business was doing fine — but growth in local engagement had flattened. This is the story of what changed, in plain language, and what you can try for your own business.
The problem: being seen is not the same as being chosen
When someone in Coimbatore searches “silk saree shop near me”, Google shows a map with a few shops. Many stores appear there. But the customer only taps on one or two.
The store was getting seen, but not enough of those views turned into real actions — a call, a tap on “Directions”, or a visit. For a shop, the direction request is gold: it usually means someone is about to get in a vehicle and come to you.
What we changed
Nothing fancy. Just the basics, done properly and done consistently:
- Cleaned up the profile. Updated business information, the right categories, and a description written around what customers actually search for.
- Added products and categories. So the profile showed what the store sells, not just its name.
- Uploaded photos regularly. Fresh, real photos of the store and products, added consistently — not once a year.
- Focused on “nearby” searches. Local keywords and improvements aimed at people searching close to the store.
- Watched the numbers every month. Calls, direction requests and interactions — and adjusted what wasn’t working.
The results
- 2,270 Business Profile interactions
- 1,663 Google Maps direction requests
- +3.2% growth in profile interactions year on year
- +3.7% growth in direction requests year on year
For a store that was already established, steady growth on top of a high base is exactly what you want — more people choosing to come in, month after month.
What you can learn from this (even without hiring anyone)
- Open your Google Business Profile today and check: are your hours, phone number and categories correct?
- Add 5 real photos this week — your shop front, inside the store and your best products. Then keep adding a few every month.
- Fill in Products. Customers decide faster when they can see what you sell.
- Look at “Performance” in your profile once a month. Calls and direction requests matter more than views.
- Ask happy customers for a review and reply to every review — good or bad.
Small, consistent work on your profile adds up. That’s the whole secret.
